Queen Parting Gift To Brown

Brown's parting gift from the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh: signed photographs of the royal couple in leather frames bought from Smythson, the Mayfair store that employs Samantha Cameron as its creative director.
I wonder if her Majesty was dabbling in a little politics there. Surely not, it must just be one of those coincidences in life.

David Blunkett Injured by Charging Cow

In a remarkable story, Blunkett on his 62nd Birthday went out walking with his guide dog Sadie. When an enraged cow charged at Sadie and trampled Blunkett. You just couldn't make that up.

Eurovision Song Contest: 2009

Congratulations to Norway! Nice to see the Eurovision is back to being a song contest, with Norway's entry winning by a landslide. Lord Webber and Jade Ewen's hard work put us at number 5, instead of getting just getting "nul points". Graham Norton took over from Sir Terry's commentary and didn't disappoint, very enjoyable.

The best performance for me was Ukraine's entry, that was some crazy camped up action. Germany's entry had Dita von Teese* in their performance, yet it was the lead singers skin tight, shiny sliver trousers that stole the show, I thought at one point I might have an epileptic fit the way the light danced off them. France's entry couldn't be any more "French", or depressing, I'm glad I wasn't wearing laced shoes. Best part however as I am a little geeky, was they linked live to the International Space Station to launch voting.

It was a bit disappointing that production values were so high with the acts, rather than campy, yet given Mother Russia's earlier actions on campness, I'm not surprised. The biggest curiosity that hangs over it all though, is when did Russia or Israel become apart of Europe? Must of missed that.

Easter "Bombers" Released

Budget day is a good day to hide this among the headlines, nine of the twelve men arrested in a "very big" anti-terror operation, will be deported and not changed. There is something really odd about that whole operation, the fact the case is going to be reviewed just enforces this.

Looking at the operation time line raises both eyebrows:
  • Bob Quick shows off his secret documents to photographers, this brings forward operation "pathway" according to Jacqui Smith just a matter hours.
  • Police launch raids across 14 properties in Northwest England, Brown states "We are dealing with a very big terrorist plot. We have been following it for some time."
  • One of the men they arrest is freed straight away, suggesting he was wrongly arrested.
  • All goes quiet for a few days.
  • Then it's reported they will be released without charge and deported.
Though I'm sure everyone would agree using reliable intelligence pre-emptively, is far better than waiting until a terrorist has their finger the detonator. Yet can the word "intelligence" be used in any capacity with regard to this investigation. Turning it into a blaze of publicity, that verges on a witch hunt, just shows why policing and politics shouldn't mix.

Iron Sky

This quirky yet ingenious idea uses the internet to it's best advantage, selling war bonds that fund the film, and asking for talent to help make it. That along side I think the greatest tag line in the history of film:

In 1945 the Nazis went to the Moon.
In 2018 they are coming back.

They've got a teaser trailer on their website.

Gonna need a bigger nappy

A man held a woman hostage in handcuffs and an adult nappy for three days while he read Bible passages to her. . . . (full story)

You've got to wonder what went through his mind . . . .

1. Nappies, check
2. Bible, check
3. Kidnapped woman, check

Ok let's start

“In the beginning . . . .”
